Back in April, I entered a photo into a contest through Photographer’s Forum:
Established in 1977, Photographer’s Forum Magazine is an award-winning quarterly publication dedicated to quality reproduction of photography in the United States and Canada. Each issue strives to facilitate communication and publication experience among emerging professionals.
I totally forgot about the contest, as the closing deadline was around the second week of June. Yesterday, I received an envelope in the mail from Serbin Communications. I had no idea who they were, and almost threw away the envelope, as it looked like any other junk mail. For some reason, when I got into the house, I decided to open the envelope. Lo and behold, it was a letter informing me I have been selected as a finalist in the contest.
Over 3,500 photographers participated in the contest, and I am in the finalist group. Because I’m a finalist, my photo will be published in the annual, Best of Photography 2009. Just this small bit alone was enough to send me into shock. I’m going to be published!
The picture I submitted is this:

I am so humbled and so excited that I even get to be printed and on display somewhere other than my own walls. I’m going to be in a hardcover bound, limited edition annual that is printed by a long-standing photographer’s periodical!
I will find out on or around August 17 if I made Honorable Mention or greater. In any event, I’m thrilled. :)

Hi Erin,
I love your photo that was selected for Photographer’s Forum.
I also had a photo that was chosen as a finalist.
Since it is August 18 and I have heard nothing more, I assume I did not get into the final four—
Have you heard anything since the original letter that we received the end of July?
Alas, I have not. I assumed the same as well, but I haven’t checked the website in a while. I look forward to seeing the book when it comes out in December, though!
Congratulations and ‘welcome to the club’ :)
Wow, that’s awesome! Congrats on getting published :).
